Friday Favorites - February 6th (already!)

Looks like I'm already a week behind this month!!  Usually this is the s-l-o-w-e-s-t month for me (despite two family/framily birthdays this week, our bourbon crawl this weekend, my birthday next week, Valentine's day, a trip to SC, then my brother's birthday at the end of the month). . .it just always seems.so.long.  Maybe because so many things are going on??  I don't know - this week at work has been busy, I finished the entire third season of The Guilded Age, and I got to play both pickleball and tennis the last two nights.  I missed Amy's Currently link-up (sorry Amy!) and Joyce's hodgepodge (sorry Joyce!).  Like it matters to them - ha!  I love a "reason" to blog. . .but I don't always find the time.  That's why it's a hobby - I make time for it when I can :)
Linking up with Andrea and Erika today for this post.  Head over to their blogs to catch up with them and others that are linking in!

I almost HATE to use these numbers this week - schools were out 3 days (I think) last week and so far kiddos have not been back to school this week.  If there was snow on the ground I could understand but, alas, that could not have been the case Wednesday. . .and then when I let the dogs out Thursday morning and saw a dusting of snow on our deck I figured they wouldn't be in yesterday either. . .sigh.  It's a tough job, having to make these calls, but it's also tough to be out of routine for two full weeks too.  So. . .maybe a FAVORITE for me here, as much as I mourn no longer being a full-time mom, is that we are no longer dependent on the public school system.
My FAVORITE favorite this week was a lunch date with Stephen at a new place that opened up about a mile away from us.  Look at our lunch!!
While we were at lunch he asked if his dad and I had plans that night.  It was a Tuesday night with no plans.  He asked if we would like to go to the basketball game with him - he had some extra tickets.  That was an easy "yes". . .then he told me the tickets were center court!!!
Row 5 - how fun, right??
They were playing Ol' Miss
At halftime Tom, Stephen, and another friend he brought along went out for snacks - and brought back some cocktails :). It didn't feel like a Tuesday night :)
He even let me get a picture with him when we got up to get something (I forget what??)
Fun game, fun night. . .when Tom and I got home I said, "I love days that end with something I didn't have a clue was going to happen that day when I woke up in the morning".
I was having fun last night preparing gift bags for our friends and family joining us on our Bourbon weekend.
I don't think any of you read this blog, but if you continue your gift won't be a surprise. . .just warning you. . .
Look what I ordered for everyone for my birthday weekend -
Personalized bourbon glasses and ice molds. . .and look at the bottom -
I'm so pleased with how they turned out!!!  It's also my uncle's 70th birthday so I framed a couple family photos for him - this one from Greece in 2023
Isn't this a cool frame???
And then a picture of most of us going on the trip this weekend plus my dad (his brother) and my dad's wife.  Giving gifts is a FAVORITE :)
I really enjoyed reading everyone's book recs yesterday - I think I finally figured it out. . .I like the idea of reading books (and do enjoy a good book) but don't take the time it would take to read all the books I want to read.  My TBR list is so long and then I read 5-10 posts a month on what everyone else is reading and I want to read those too. . .but rarely finish a book.  I think I did finish two in January - The Favorites (just in time for the Olympics!) and The Diamond Eye.  I was reading The Bright Years (Shay's book club pick for February) but didn't finish it before the library took it back - so it's currently on hold again.  I'm starting The Secret Book of Flora Lea for the second time - again the library took it back before I got even half-way through and now the wait was so long that I've had to start it over.  I'm determined to get through it this time - I'm sure I'll like it.  I also heard about this book more than once this week so, with my word of the year being NOTICE, I noticed that it kept coming up so maybe I should order it.  I got it the same day!
I already set time aside in the morning for The Bible Recap - I'm doing this at that time too as time allows.
So, a FAVORITE is reading. . .it's just not always reading books or long novels but rather things I can pick up and put down, daily blogs, articles on LinkedIn. . .I hope I never lose my love of reading.
Only 5 snowmen, so only five FAVORITES - ha!
I like a challenge.  Amy challenged her readers to pull out their scarves and wear them.  I know she meant "other than as outerwear" but it was COLD when I left for work Thursday and it's a new scarf that I DO wear inside even without a coat if I'm cold. . .so here is one pic.  I forgot to get a picture, but it's so cold inside at tennis that I wore my hat and scarf (a different one that is pima cotton) to play last week - ha! I'm going to see how many different ones I can get out and use in different ways these next few days.
That snow you see on the ground?  That is what caused school to be canceled yesterday.  I know, I know - you northerners and midwesterners can laugh all you want.  I'm 20+ years in at this point and just accept it.
It's looking COLD in Lexington this weekend
but you see that SUNSHINE on Saturday???  That will make all the difference FOR SURE!!
I'll be hopping around to read everyone else's FAVORITES this weekend :)
Love,
Jenni

  1. Missed you in the blogosphere but for sure blogging is a hobby (for those of us who don't make money on our blogs (part of making money sounds nice but the pressure, the links, all that, nah!)) and when life is good and too busy it just doesn't happen. Your week sounds really nice- that unexpected invitation to a game complete with drinks and great tickets. NICE! I hope your weekend is fun- the Cincy airport has a big map of Kentucky and mentions all the stops on the Bourbon Trail. Your gifts are fabulous! I look forward to reading about your weekend- whenever you get the chance to do that, lol!

  2. That lunch looks amazing! I get the frustration over being out of the routine for two full weeks. It's been the same here for me near Memphis. Today makes snow day number ten for us! I never want to see ice/snow again. Ha! I hope you enjoy the weekend!

  3. It sounds like you have a busy month.
Oh no! It sounds rough there being no school but yay to the lunch date with Stephen and the basketball game.
The gifts for the Bourbon weekend look great!
I am not a reader as I don't make the time but this year I have started listening to audiobooks! They seem to work so well for me.

  4. Yeah, we don't even shovel or treat our roads for that little bit of snow! LOL. We got nearly 2 feet and I think schools had 1 day off.. I'm not saying I wouldn't mind everything shutting down for snow as I HATE going out in it and dealing with all the cold and yuck that follows the snowfall but it is pretty ho hum when snow comes. Those glasses are fabulous and the ball game sounds like some real unexpected fun.

  5. I also missed the link ups this week. I don't have the excuse of a full-time job, but somehow the time got away from me. To answer your question, I do have the gingham shirt. It doesn't require ironing, although sometimes I do just to give it a crisp look. I originally put it in the dryer, but decided not to for the new one so that it doesn't shrink at all. Have a good bourbon weekend - love the glasses.
