From this Side of the Pond

1. When does time pass slowly for you? When does time past quickly for you?

2. Do you have a favorite beach? What's your favorite 'beach' activity? Tell us what we'd find in your beach bag.

3. Your favorite book or movie with a beach setting?

4. What's a food you love, but find it's a pain to eat? Is it worth it?

5.  Do you like roller coasters? What's the best (or worst) roller coaster you've been on?

6. Insert your own random thought here.

So happy to participate this week!!  I will be linking up with other bloggers at Joyce's blog today!!

1. When does time pass slowly for you? When does time past quickly for you?

Time passes slowly when I don't have anything to do.  UGH.  I *hate* being bored. . .now, I can always find *something* to do, don't get me wrong, but sometimes you're just "stuck" in a pattern of waiting for something to come along and you have to be available and can't really be off doing something else or starting something else.  Does that make sense?

Time passes quickly when I'm fully engaged in something.  I LOVE being busy and immersed, whether it's work, a project, a book, conversation, making something. . .even doing a fun puzzle while listening to a podcast.  Maybe that's why my ideal days were in the classroom or at home as a FT mom - from the minute I woke up I was engaged in something and then, at the end of the day, exhausted and fulfilled and happy :)

2. Do you have a favorite beach? What's your favorite 'beach' activity? Tell us what we'd find in your beach bag.

I don't know if I have a favorite beach.  I *love* the beach, but my husband does not, unless we are walking on it.  My aunt lives on Anna Maria Island, my sister has a place on Kiawah Island, and my brother is close to Clearwater/St. Pete so those are the ones I visit most often :). As long as the sand is soft, the sun is shining, and it's 80-ish degrees with a breeze I'm there for it!!!

Anna Maria Island in the top right pic - Clearwater in the bottom left, Kiawah in the middle pic with my sis (apparently I'll go even if it's cold as evidenced by some of these pics) and a 2008 trip with my mom to Mexico - look at us with all those little ones!
My beach bag has a chair, towel, book, ice water and sometimes I remember music.

3. Your favorite book or movie with a beach setting?

I have no idea - love Elin Hilderbrand but have never been to Nantucket - any beach setting will do though.  Are there beach movies?  Not much of a movie person. . .will almost always choose a book.

4. What's a food you love, but find it's a pain to eat? Is it worth it?

Crab legs?  "Love" is a strong word though.  They are worth it, once cracked and you pull the meat out. . .but there are so.many.more things I would choose over them.  Can't wait to see other answers - just don't know that many foods that are a "pain" to eat. . .corn on the cob?  I cut it off.  'Smores?  Although they are delicious I'm not going to make them unless I'm with others and we're making the mess together.  This isn't a question I can relate to I guess.

5.  Do you like roller coasters? What's the best (or worst) roller coaster you've been on?

I did at one time - never, ever would I get on one now though.  I remember in HS talking people into roller coasters - ha!  I grew up going to Cedar Point and Kings Island - they both seem to have some good ones.  I still like "fair" rides though!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Along this vein of vacation/adventure, I think depending on who I'm with determines what I enjoy doing.  With the family it will ALWAYS be the lake on our boat, eating lunch on the lake and then maybe stopping for ice cream or even dinner.  With Tom we enjoy going to a city with history that we can explore together with our "major" meal being lunchtime, although we both really like breakfast too.  One of the BEST beach vacations I ever had was the first of many tennis trips I took with a group of women - tennis and clinics/drills in the morning, beachside lunch, some laying out, sometimes another round of tennis in the afternoon, then cleaning up and heading to dinner then a piano bar.

In 2011 I went on my "first ever" Girls Trip to TOPS'L in Florida's panhandle. It was also graduation weekend for me (my Master's Degree).  There was a professor from that university on the trip with us so we had a "pretend" ceremony on the beach :)

See the "tassel" we attached?  We didn't have anything rolled up to serve as a diploma so we used a box of Wheat Thins.

Thank you, Joyce, for the fun prompts this week!  Please feel free to share your answers in the comments or head over to From This Side of the Pond and enter your link if you have a blog :)

Happy Wednesday!
Love,
Jenni

  1. I love Kiawah, one of my newer favorites. I'd never been until moving to SC but it's beautiful. I'm excited for a beach trip with all my grands together and both girls and their husbands. We have all been together at the lake but this will feel different. Thanks for joining in today. Have a great day!

  2. I am with you on so many of these! I mentioned various beaches we've been to in Florida over the years. They're all special to me because they're the BEACH!! I feel the same way about crab legs and struggled with that prompt. One of Alyssa's goals is to know someone with a place on Kiawah Island, lol. Her best friend has an aunt and uncle who have a place there and Alyssa has gone with them five or so times. She loves it so much! Great pics on the beach! Have a great day!

    1. I had never heard of Kiawah Island until my sis and BIL started going 20-25 years ago and then made it a permanent vacation spot for themselves. Kiawah hosts a tennis Racquet Wars each year but it's hard to find friends that want to go to the coast in FEBRUARY b/c the weather is hit-or-miss. Glad to find another beach friend here in blogland!!

  3. I get that, when I am bored or waiting for something time does pass so slowly!
It seems that all the food which is a pain to eat is the most delicious!

  4. Good morning! Can you believe that I’ve never read an Ellen Hilderderbrand book? I have one on my Kindle though and plan to get to it shortly. Have a lovely day!

  5. I have a couple Elin Hilderbrand beach books saved on my Kindle! I can't wait to read them. Crab Legs seem to be the consensus for question #4. I loved reading your #6!

  8. How nice to have family with places at the beach! Not much of a beach person here but I sure would not mind visiting family "near the beach"!:) And yes time goes quickly when my brain is fully engaged!!
