Friday Favorites 10.06.23

Here we are, the first weekend in October.  I can't hardly believe it -- September just flew.  Not much has been going on around here but trying to keep up the discipline of checking in and creating memories in the small things :)
Although I don't know that this day would have been considered "small". . .did you catch my post on Monday?  Still a favorite from last weekend. . .the Volunteers have a week off this week so we can relax and enjoy football without a horse in the race :)

I'm linking up with other bloggers at the party Erika and Andrea host each week.

After scrolling through my list, click on one of their blog links and see what their favorites are from this week.  Spoiler alert - I already read them and Andrea shared some great fall finds (with links!) and Erika shared a candle line that is new-to-me.

My first favorite is a blog post I read this week - Shay's Ways - 21 Keys to Elevating the EverydayPlease click on the link and read through it and then let me know how you "elevate your day purposely".  She posted this:
I immediately wrote down and will keep close to me, "Don't live passively, live passionately" - I love this!!  I could even change it to say, "Don't live passively, live purposefully".
She had lots of other reminders, many that I try to keep up with, some new ideas (background music options!)

It's been a beautiful week for pickleball!!!  I got to play two mornings this week. . .bright sunshine, clear sky, low humidity.  And then, today, this was the sky outside the place I am staying this weekend:
Ugh.  It started drizzling as soon as I left.  I know, don't feel sorry for me. . .I get to stay at the lake for the weekend with this guy:

Isn't he a cutie??  His parents are going to visit their family out west and hired my daughter to watch him for the time they are gone.  Problem is, she is still finishing up a job in Ohio for my sister so we agreed to fill in for the overlap since they are friends of ours.  Yesterday I took him to a park and I couldn't get him to stop long enough for a picture!

All the fall goodies/flavors of the fall!  The best thing about Trader Joe's is their extensive gluten-free selections. . .I was taking pictures to see if Tom wanted anything (he did!)
My daughter who I work with got to represent our firm at Meet the Firms a couple of weeks ago.  I think she was a good "face" for the firm that afternoon :)

The podcasts at the top are two of my favorites, I rarely miss a week.  The other two are books I am currently reading (I often read 2+ books at a time) but I wouldn't say either is going to go down as a favorite.  Boo.  They aren't terrible, just not a Top-Ten.  Scott Turow's is really old, I was just looking for something to listen to for my long drive to the dogsitting gig.  Pineapple Street has gotten a lot of chatter in blogland this summer. . .I'm not a huge fan.  I'm 79% of the way through so I will finish it, but there are better books to recommend like The Lincoln Highway

OK, that's it for me this week. . .like I said, kinda boring, but every day is a gift and I intend to be purposeful instead of passive.  Again, thank you, Shay, for that reminder.

Happy Weekend,
Jenni

  1. Great pictures! Your daughter is so pretty! (Just as her mama is!). I like the quote you mentioned from the other blog, especially the ending part that you highlighted about not living passively. I don´t agree with everything else in the quote 100% though I agree with the sentiment. I subscribe to the notion that if everything is special than nothing is. For instance, I love my formal china and do use it for company. I want it to remain special, though, so I would not want to use it every day. Plus, I want to hand it down to one of my daughters and if I use it every day, it is more likely that I will break or chip a piece. But definitely I agree about reading your favorite book! If you have an Aldi near you, I would check it out for their gluten free options. They have a lot of them (I notice them for a friend of mine who is GF) and their prices are really good. Have a great weekend!

  2. Those are two of my favorite podcasts too. They are always "must listen's" for me. I did enjoy Pineapple Street and sorry to hear it is a miss for you. I was happy to see you mention Shay's blog post. It really resonated with me, and I bookmarked it to mention in a later blog post too! She had such great tips for savoring the ordinary!

  3. I love those two podcasts as well; one I found through Tanya, and the other I've followed since their early days of blogging. I've gotten to meet both Sophie and Melanie, and they're definitely a couple of my favorite people on earth. They're both so genuine and approachable, which I love. It sounds like you've had a good week! I'm always thankful for those!
