It's late Wednesday night and I'm just getting around to updating from the weekend. . .such is life these days :) We had a full weekend with perfect, beautiful weather. The unfortunate part was that we were split up most of the weekend due to sports stuff. . .soccer and tennis. We'll take it while we can get it. . .as much as most people just *love* fall, I don't so much because of the season that follows: winter. Yuck. So, I am enjoying every minute of it while it is still warm and sun-shine-y outside!!!
Thomas and I left the house at 5 a.m. Saturday morning to make a 7:45 a.m. first game in a soccer tournament about two hours away. It was a very foggy drive and I really don't know if I would have made it without my GPS system (a gift from my sister this summer). I love that GPS. . .there is no way I could have read all the signs and kept track of where I was Saturday morning without it. This is what the fields looked like when we arrived at 7 a.m.:

The team was feeling pretty good at half-time. . .they were up by 2!
Second half. . .Thomas played defense the entire game. . .
They ended up with a score of 2-2. Not bad at all.
The next game wasn't scheduled until 1:30 p.m. so we took off to do a little shopping (Target! What a treat!) and have some lunch. Again, without the GPS I would not have ventured that far away from fields. . .thank you Jodi!!! While we were doing that Tom was home getting Marie and Frederick to their team pictures then to their games. Marie scored for her team and they pulled out their first W of the season. . .and even without Thomas there to help Tom coach (ha!) their team pulled out another win too. Of course no pictures but good memories for them :) And I love texting. . .that we can keep one another up-to-date on the scores in real time 100 miles away!!
Game 2: Thomas's team did not fare so well. . .my camera batteries finally gave out but there wasn't much to document. . .once they got too far down they had a hard time keeping the game going. . . :(
It was a little rough, huh, Coach? This, actually, is the head coach. His brother is the assistant, who was there for the first game. Apparently they weren't the only family with multiple obligations this past Saturday. . .they seemed to be tag-teaming it too.
Sunday dawned bright and beautiful. Tom left at 6:30 a.m. with the two older ones to make Game 3 of Thomas's tournament. Margaret, Frederick, and I went to church together then I told them they could request a "special" restaurant if they wanted for lunch since we had to stay in town for my 1:45 tennis round robin. They chose Olive Garden. . .it was really fun to go with just the two of them -- and they were really excited to go to a "nice" restaurant. . .what a treat for us all! When we texted Tom to let him know what we were doing he was a bit jealous. . .he and the kids had ended up at Steak 'n Shake.
I was Playing for the Cure on Sunday. Our town has a Susan G. Komen 5K Race for the Cure each year and 20-some tennis "divas and dudes" get together to form a team. . .but instead of running the race we play a tennis round-robin! It is so much fun -- I did it last year too. (The location of the race is at the local university and the starting line happens to be right next to the tennis courts.)
Tom entered to play too but then the soccer tournament thing got in the way. As it turned out since they didn't win any of their games they came home early and he *would* have made it. (They have to have a player count by Friday so they can set the teams up for Sunday and we just didn't know how the soccer tournament would go.) Maybe next year. Although we get the "official" race t-shirt, Crystal has these made for us. . .because "everyone deserves a perfect set". I think this team (Tennis Divas and Dudes) raised almost $1500?? Pretty good!
Tom and the kids stuck around for a little bit. . .I believe there were over 2000 runners and lots of tailgating and other fun things going on. . .Frederick got his face painted
and Tom took a couple shots of me on the court before he left with the kids.

He should have stuck around. . .he could have gotten a picture of me in the winner's circle! Yea! Kinda fun to win. . .another person and I tied for first place (most games won). . .we each received a cool little personal cooler. The kids flipped over it -- they couldn't wait to use it for work on Tuesday. So cute :) And it raised awareness for the fight in them too. . .Sunday at lunch and then again at dinner Frederick was praying for a cure for cancer -- awareness cannot start too soon.
Well, I am now well into Thursday. . .today is Community Bible Study and Co-op (we're making meatballs) so it's time to hit the sheets. Poor Tom was sick today (Wednesday) -- I think it's one of maybe 5 times in the last two decades that he's called in sick to work. Yuck. It was the stomach thing that three of the other kids have had. Just hoping it stays away from me. . .

ReplyDeleteThe tennis round robin sounds like fun...what a great way to raise money. I haven't played in so long. I heard about it too late, but a tennis association in the area is having some kind of kids' day and the kids get a bunch of free stuff, including a free racquet.
I want some Olive Garden now...haven't been there in a long time either.
