Garage Sale - Company Girls 4.15

The kids have begged and begged.  Today was the big day -- GARAGE SALE DAY!!!  A friend down the street and I organized a "neighborhood garage sale" to make the drive out here worth it to more people.  We think about 8 families were planning on participating (there are 53 houses in our neighborhood).
The kids were up by 6, and although the ad run for the neighborhood had a 7 a.m. opening time, they started dragging tables out at 6:40.  We were able to have the tables and such in the driveway for a little over an hour, then the rain came.  Then the thunder to drive even the heartiest of souls away.

This is what they're doing now:
They absolutely refuse to close up even though the red hanging from our mailbox used to be a posterboard:

Oh yea, on top of it all, we had a showing for the house today.  Like getting ready for the yard sale wasn't enough.  The real estate company left a message for me yesterday and I called the secretary back to tell her we would be here and explained the situation but said we would not be in the house.  The time they gave us was "between 9:30-11:00 a.m.".  Wouldn't you know, they showed up at 9:20 -- as I was walking up the stairs to do one last check. . .one of the kids hadn't made (his) bed. . .quick threw that cover on and made sure the toilet was flushed. . .the people were here for less than 5 minutes though so I guess it didn't really matter.  Now the house is ready -- anybody else want to come by????

Looks like we might be in for a wet weekend.  There isn't much on the calendar, though, and I'm thankful for that.  Will finish my theses and turn it in FOR SURE this weekend.  The girls and I have a ministry dinner to go to at our church Saturday night.  That's it. . .so nice :)

  2. Bummer about the rain!! We actually got a sunny day today even though it was forecasted to rain. Go figure....I have no idea what to plan for anymore. I tried to do a garage sale 2 yrs ago, but it was with high expectations since it was right after Emily was born. That red poster is just too sad to look at anymore. =p Good luck with the house selling/buying.

  3. Hey there! Thanks for the encouragement on my post today. We had an even better 2nd day at the store than opening day. Who knew that a Dollar Store in Milton Freewater OR. would do so well? God is good!

So glad you shared about the garage sale. It's the little details that you share that makes me feel closer to you as a Company Girl. :)

    Blessings,
    Melissa

  4. I just think garage sale days should be guarantee rain-free days, yes? I so know the drill about selling a house and showings. Prayers!

  5. Oh, I cannot let my children see your children hosting a garage sale. They have asked and asked since my oldest who is 12 was 3. I guess that is 9 years! I don't like to do yard/garage sales...but he did have a point about doing all the work...they are older now!

  6. I must confess...I HATE doing garage sales. I would rather just donate everything I have to Goodwill. My husband loves them though, so if we ever have one, I make him do it all!

I hate that you all had bad weather...it is no longer raining here, but it is FREEZING! Maybe you can just box it up and wait till a pretty weekend next month?

The kids do look like they had fun, though! Hope you have a great weekend!

  7. What a mess that it rained out the garage sale the kids were so excited for. I always like the idea of a yard sale- getting rid of some of my stuff and getting a few dollars for it, but the getting it ready and early morning hours (and it is always super hot when we decide to have a sale) detour me.
