This was my first picture of 2026 - taken at 5 a.m. (when the dog got me up to go outside):
My word of the year is NOTICE. I noticed how much I love my tree, how the lights sparkle in the quiet dark of the morning, how I have a lovely, cozy home to live in. That I woke up in a warm bed, able to look ahead to today, this week, this month, this year with anticipation and joy.
Someone at Pickleball this morning asked me to explain "word of the year" to her. Last year it was intentional and I just went back and re-read that post. I have a lot to say about it - how much as changed and how much has stayed the same, but the main thing I took away was how writing can change minds, build things, help to organize thoughts, and save memories. And I've really found this year how much fun it is to share my writing with this blogging community. I love going to all my favorite bloggers (on my sidebar) and catching up with them, their lives, their thoughts, their hopes, and sometimes their hard things. I was more intentional about being present in this community and I think it added to my life.
Notice - I want to notice the people around me. I want to notice that when I do this, this happens and when I say this, this happens, and notice when things make me feel bad or frustrated versus happy and light. This is not a measurable goal but one I want to keep in the forefront of what I do. NOTICE what God's Word is saying to me in my daily reading, notice if someone could use a helping hand or encouragement, notice when I have "too much" going on and need to slow down/cut back. Up until now I don't know I've been afforded the luxury of this since there's always been a lot of responsibility in my roles as daughter, student, teacher, wife, mother, coach, etc. - and that responsibility is still there, but diminished a bit in this season of life.
My second picture of 2026 is this one:
So glad to get to start the day (the year!) with this great group of pickleballers :)Before I went there, Tom and I had already been to the grocery store to pick up some things for upcoming meals we are hosting. We came home and got the marinade ready for the dinner we are hosting Saturday night and made sure we had everything ready for the dinner tonight. It's a beautiful (COLD) sun-shiney day and there is a LOT of work to get this house back in order for the weekend and week ahead. Happy New Year blogging friends!! Can't wait to catch up with all of you too :)
Love,
Jenni
