October Favorites - then & now

I'm practicing my "selfie" skills this month - every day trying to take a picture to see if I can become better/more comfortable doing this.  This was last week at this time in sunny, Kiawah, SC.
This is tough. . .I did NOT master it and will not continue to practice at this time. . .if someone downloaded my month of pictures they would certainly wonder what I've been up to. . .

Linking up today with Andrea and Erika for some Friday Favorites!  If you have a blog, please join us - if not, consider commenting here with a couple of your favorites :)

I wasn't sure if I "really" had anything to blog about today so I went back in my archives, wondering when it all started.  Apparently it started on November 3, 2009!  No pictures. . .I probably (??) had a digital camera by then, but would have to download them, organize them. . .you remember "those days", right?

Still. . .my favorite posts are my firsts - Robert, Laura, Erin, and Stephen.  And they are still my favorite people :)

In my "Robert" post I wrote this:   My kids truly love and LIKE one another. They are good friends and play well together. They complement one another and my prayer is that they always keep this friendship among themselves.

You know what, this is still true :). My heart is full.  Here is a picture from that post (2009):

Here they were for our annual Father's Day picture this year (2025):

The time flies, but it is time worth savoring, enjoying, investing in, and remembering.
From left to right they are currently involved in college missions full-time, a tax accountant, {their father - a mechanical engineer since 1995}, some kind of commercial real estate developer (Mom, you just can't understand), and business owner - lawn business and junk business.  Who would have guessed from that First Day of School picture in 2009 on our front porch in Rickman, Tennessee??

Here are the girls from Erin's post:

And me and my sis from last Christmas.  I hope they always know how lucky they are to have each other!!!

This is probably one of my most favorite posts I ever wrote (not that I've re-read all that many) - but it was my heart then and hopefully would be my heart today if in the same circumstance.
I loved that life and I love the life I have today :)
I don't know who took this picture (my dad maybe?) - we were at a Children's museum it looks like - we used to spend a lot of time doing things like that together.
Looking back is fun and nostalgic, but we need to live life looking forward, right?  This is where I am NOW and my favorites from this last month :)
According to my pictures I started the month playing tennis under the lights! Obviously my first attempt at my "month of selfies" - ha!  I can tell you the weather was too cold and wet to play tennis or pickleball outside this last week of October!
I had a shopping day with this bride-to-be and her mom and sister!! First stop was getting our toes done, then off to the mall to find some mother-of-the-bride and mother-of-the-groom dresses. . .stay tuned to see how it turned out on December 5th!!
Twice this month we made a fire, poured some cocktails, and brought the computer outside to watch {something} together.  We don't do this enough.
Tailgating with this crew!!!
And then the next day, celebrating a milestone birthday with Connie :)
Tennis!!!  Always a favorite, but for some reason, in October I had LOTS of time with these friends!  We played in the finals of the State 7.5 40+ women's tournament and came up short to a good Memphis team.  Below was my partner in the semi-final match of the day - the other is my friend from Cookeville who was in town playing for her team :)
Then there are my pickleball friends :). This is me with one of the ladies at our local gym - sometimes there will be 16-20 of us out there on a Friday morning!  (I counted this as my "selfie" for the day - I just didn't improve through the month - ha!)
One of the Wednesday morning ladies arranged a Pickleball women's lunch and I was able to fit it into my work schedule with my MIL:
One.last.day at the lake!!  And I highly, highly recommend Elin Hildebrand's newest book that she wrote with her daughter - excellent.

I've had a busy work at work - not sure why. . .maybe because I had a 3-day week last week so lots to catch up on?  Also someone in our group is moving to another department in our organization and I'm taking over some of her admin duties so I've been learning the process for setting new people up for training.  Today is Halloween, not a holiday I normally give a lot of attention to, but one of the branches asked me to be a part of their costume contest so I'm driving over there this morning for that.  Then, a couple of weeks ago, I suggested a Beggar's Night Tailgate at our community area tonight so another neighbor and I are hosting that with our HOA.  Should be fun, but the weather has been horrible this week and we weren't even able to get all the fliers distributed between raindrops so we'll see who will show up.  At least the weather is supposed to be dry (but cold for me - high of 57 today).
I've loved all the memes and reels of teachers thankful for Halloween being on a Friday this year - I can completely relate to that for them!!
Hope today, tonight, and the weekend is good for all of you!!

  1. I struggle with selfies too. In fact, if my husband isn't taking it, it's just a no go for me. I always feel the pull of looking back at nostalgia vs. looking forward. Hope you have a good weekend.
